The 24-Hour “DONKI Village” in Guam: A New Nightspot on the Island [Report]
Mitsui Fudosan, Toyota Fudosan, and the Yomiuri Shimbun Group Headquarters have established a special purpose company called Tsukiji Machizukuri, which has formulated a basic plan for the ‘Tsukiji District Urban Development Project.’
This large-scale development project, encompassing the former Tsukiji Market site, covers a total floor area of approximately 1.26 million square meters and is valued at around 900 billion yen. It includes the construction of 9 buildings, such as a large-scale attraction/exchange facility (multi-stadium), a life science/commercial complex building, a MICE/hotel/residence building, a shipping/theater hall complex building, and is scheduled to open in the early 2030s.
The basic plan’s key concept is ‘ONE PARK×ONE TOWN,’ which leverages natural resources like Hamarikyu Gardens and the Sumida River, and collaborates with business hubs in Ginza, Tsukiji, Shimbashi, and Shiodome, as well as adjacent medical facilities, to preserve and develop Japan’s food culture, and to create innovation in partnership with surrounding medical facilities.
The design motif reflects the former Tsukiji Market’s semicircular building shape, which was originally designed to accommodate cargo trains. In addition to constructing a new subway station, the project aims to form a transportation hub for buses, taxis, next-generation mobility, shipping, flying cars, and heliports.
The construction will be undertaken by construction companies including Kajima Corporation, Shimizu Corporation, Taisei Corporation, and Takenaka Corporation, with design by Nikken Sekkei and Pacific Consultants. The Asahi Shimbun and Toyota Motor Corporation are also cooperating with the project.
