Sompo Japan Insurance Suspends Some Overseas Travel Insurance Sales from Oct 1
Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) will again conduct undercover ride-along inspections this fiscal year to assess legal compliance among charter buses in operation.
From October through February 2026, commissioned investigators will, without prior notice, board actual charter buses as ordinary passengers and examine legal compliance items such as whether operations outside licensed service areas are taking place, whether rest times are properly secured, whether seat belt usage is announced and complied with, and whether relief drivers are appropriately assigned.
MLIT in Japan also conducts on-site inspections at operators’ offices by auditors, as well as roadside inspections at bus terminals in tourist areas and at airports.
