Ethiopian Airlines has converted orders for six Boeing 787-9 aircraft from options to firm orders.
The airline has finalized the options it placed in 2023 as firm orders. With the Boeing 787 series, Ethiopian Airlines will expand its international network to and from Addis Ababa and enhance its cargo transport capacity.
Ethiopian Airlines is the largest operator of Boeing 787 aircraft in Africa. Using both the Boeing 787-8 and Boeing 787-9, the airline operates high-demand intercontinental routes to Europe, North America, and Asia, as well as intra-African regional routes.
At the 2023 Dubai Airshow, the airline agreed to introduce up to 67 Boeing aircraft. It placed firm orders for 31 aircraft, including 11 Boeing 787-9s and 20 Boeing 737-8s, and secured options for 36 aircraft, including 15 Boeing 787s and 21 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
