Skymark’s First Boeing 737-8 for a Japanese Airline Arrives at Tokyo Haneda
AirAsia X has placed a firm order for 150 Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
The announcement was made at a ceremony held in Mirabel, Canada, attended by Tony Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Capital A, Lars Wagner, CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette.
This is the largest order ever for the Airbus A220 family, and the first A220 order for AirAsia. AirAsia X will become the launch customer for a 160-seat configuration, which is 10 seats more than the conventional layout. To achieve the 160-seat configuration, additional overwing emergency exits will need to be installed on both sides.
Within the AirAsia group, the A220 will complement the existing Airbus fleet and support the expansion of the group’s network. The aircraft will be deployed to cities across ASEAN and Central Asia, allowing larger aircraft to be assigned to longer-haul routes.
