JAL Group Implements Special Ticket Measures Due to Typhoon No. 7
Japan Airlines (JAL) and NTT Docomo have launched “JAL Mobile powered by ahamo” today, June 25, a service that allows users to access Docomo’s “ahamo” mobile plan through JAL’s own mobile communication service, “JAL MOBILE (JAL Mobile)” in Japan.
The plan keeps ahamo’s original pricing and features while adding JAL’s own exclusive benefits. The monthly fee is 2,970 yen with 30GB of data. International data roaming can be used in 91 countries and regions at no additional cost, and domestic voice calls up to 5 minutes are free. To use the service, customers must apply for the “JAL Mobile Option” (application fee of 2,200 yen). This is the first time Docomo has provided ahamo under a partner company’s brand.
As a benefit, users will receive once a year a coupon that allows them to redeem domestic award tickets under JAL’s “Dokokani Mile” (Somewhere Miles) program for 1,500 miles instead of the usual 7,000 miles. In addition, 125 miles will be credited every month for continuous use, and eligible fares on JAL Group flights will accrue 50 miles per domestic one-way sector and 100 miles per international one-way sector. One Life Status Point (LSP) will also be credited every month.
To commemorate the launch, a special campaign is being offered: 1,000 miles will be credited for new contracts and 5,000 miles for number portability (MNP) transfers from other carriers. During the campaign period, the application fee for the JAL Mobile Option (normally 2,200 yen) will be waived. The end date of the campaign has not yet been determined.
In April 2025, JAL began offering JAL Mobile in Japan in collaboration with Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ). It set up eight pricing plans starting from 850 yen per month and provides various benefits such as bonus miles. Many customers requested the communication quality of major Japanese telecom carriers as well as seamless connectivity overseas, which led to this latest expansion of services.
