HIS Launches Toronto Tour Featuring Baseball Viewing from Stadium Hotel Rooms
JR Central will operate a revival run of the discontinued overnight rapid train “Moonlight Nagara” to coincide with the “Ichiba Festival” (Market Festival) held in Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
The train will run on August 9, one way only from Mishima to Ogaki. It will depart Mishima Station at around 1:00 a.m. and arrive at Ogaki Station at around 7:30 a.m. The train will consist of a 3-car Series 373 EMU set.
The service will be sold by lottery as a JR Tokai Tours travel product. En route, the destination indicator will be cycled through, and a curtain-rolling photography session will be held exclusively for tour participants. After riding the “Moonlight Nagara,” participants will transfer to a dedicated bus from Ogaki Station to visit the Ogaki City Public Local Wholesale Market and Kaizu Onsen hot spring. The tour price is 37,500 yen per adult. Applications will be accepted until July 5.
The “Moonlight Nagara” began operation in 1996, inheriting from the so-called “Ogaki Night Train,” which ran between Tokyo and Ogaki Stations. In addition to the Series 373, limited express rolling stock such as the Series 183 and Series 189 was also used. From 2009 it was operated only as a seasonal/extra service, and in its final years it ran with Series 185 trainsets during periods such as New Year holidays and summer vacation. After the last northbound (for Tokyo) service operated on March 29, 2020, no further runs were scheduled, and on January 22, 2021, its formal discontinuation was announced.
