JR East to Conduct Intensive Day-and-Night Construction on Yokosuka Line Between Tokyo and Shinagawa
JR Kyushu, Kyushu Electric Power, Enbio Holdings, Fuyo General Lease, and CRE will supply electricity derived from renewable energy to the Kyushu Shinkansen Kagoshima Route.
Electricity generated by solar power facilities installed on the rooftops of logistics facilities in Fukuoka and Saga prefectures, developed and operated by CRE, will be supplied to the Kyushu Shinkansen Kagoshima Route through Kyushu Electric Power.
The project will utilize an off-site PPA, a system in which an electricity consumer receives power generated at a location away from its own premises via the power transmission and distribution grid and an electricity retailer. This will be the first time JR Kyushu has introduced renewable electricity for train operation.
Supply will begin in stages from August 2027. The project is expected to have an output capacity of approximately 8,000 kilowatts and annual power generation of approximately 9.8 million kilowatt-hours. It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 4,600 metric tons, equivalent to the annual electricity use of around 1,800 households.
In February 2025, JR Kyushu established the “JR Kyushu Group Environmental Vision 2050,” targeting a 60% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 compared with fiscal 2023 levels, and net-zero emissions by 2050.
