Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Raises Travel Alert Level for Parts of Iran
United States embassies in various Middle Eastern countries have issued security alerts to American citizens residing in the region.
The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait has temporarily restricted its personnel from entering Camp Arifjan, Camp Buehring, Ali Al Salem Air Base, and Camp Patriot. The U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia is also asking people to refrain from non-essential entry into military facilities.
The U.S. Embassy in Qatar is urging people to avoid non-essential visits to Al Udeid Air Base. Some media outlets have reported a reduction in the posture at the base. The embassy states that its staffing and operations remain normal.
For American citizens in Iran, the authorities recommend considering overland travel to Turkey or Armenia. They warn that individuals face a significant risk of questioning, arrest, and detention, and that presenting a U.S. passport or taking actions that indicate ties to the United States could result in detention by the authorities. Some flights have been suspended.
Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a wide-area advisory calling on people to make efforts to gather the latest information and ensure their safety, noting that the protests occurring in Iran could further heighten tensions across the broader Middle East region.
