Odakyu Electric Railway and Odakyu Resorts will reopen the Hakone Highland Hotel after renovation around autumn 2027.
The renovation concept is a “forest villa embraced by the great nature of Hakone,” reflecting the property’s origins as a former zaibatsu family’s villa. The hotel will have a total of 65 rooms, comprised of a guest room wing and a Forest Residence wing. The number of rooms in the guest room wing will be reduced from 59 to 50, while floor space per room will be expanded from around 30 square meters to about 50 square meters. Four of these will be suites of approximately 100 square meters. All rooms will feature hot spring baths. The hotel will offer rooms overlooking Owakudani Valley across the lawn garden, as well as rooms facing the forest equipped with semi-open-air baths. The interiors of the Forest Residence wing will be refurbished, and all 15 rooms there will be equipped with private open-air baths.
The approach to the hotel will be redesigned with plantings that create a sense of seclusion, and the lobby will be relocated to face south-southeast, directly overlooking Owakudani. A fireplace and bar facilities will be newly installed in the lounge. For dining, wood-fired grilled cuisine will be reintroduced, and a sushi restaurant with private room options will be added as a sub-dining venue. In addition to the existing milky-white Owakudani hot spring, the hotel will introduce Hakone Sengokuhara Shinonoki Onsen, a clear hot spring newly drilled on the premises. The bathing wing will see its spa functions enhanced and will be fully equipped with private treatment rooms.
