Cathay Pacific to Increase Fuel Surcharges from March 18, with Japan-Departing Fares to Decrease from April 1
On March 16, Japan’s StarFlyer celebrated the 20th anniversary of the launch of its operations. At the boarding gate of Kitakyushu Airport, the airline held a commemorative ceremony timed with the departure of flight SFJ82 bound for Tokyo/Haneda.
President and Representative Director Osamu Machida, who gave a speech, commented, “Twenty years have passed in the blink of an eye and this is just one milestone. We want to continue taking on new challenges over the next 20 years as well,” expressing his aspirations and gratitude to passengers. He also announced that the airline has decided to resume international flights on September 2, operating three round trips per week on the Kitakyushu–Taipei/Taoyuan route as late-night and early-morning services, and that a new company, StarFlyer Branding Business, will be established in April.
Passengers on the flight received commemorative gifts, including a tote bag featuring the anniversary logo and sweets, while StarFlyer employees waved and saw the departure off.
StarFlyer was established in December 2002 as Kobe Aviation. The company adopted its current name in 2003 and moved its headquarters to the former Kitakyushu Airport in December of the same year. It introduced its first aircraft in December 2005 and launched the Kitakyushu–Tokyo/Haneda route in March 2006. The airline now operates 64 daily flights on six domestic routes within Japan.
On the previous day, March 15, a commemorative event titled “STARFLYER 20th ANNIVERSARY THANKS PARTY” was held in the hangar at Kitakyushu Airport. Stage programs such as quiz competitions and various workshops were organized for attendees.
