Experience the Semi-Private Feel for 1,200 Yen—Is There Already a Battle for the Newly Introduced “P Seats” on the Tokaido Shinkansen?
Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) has announced that the name of the train equipped with commercial operation inspection devices for the Tokaido Shinkansen will be “Doctor S.”
By using the letter “S,” which has become established as a brand image of the Tokaido Shinkansen through the latest N700S train, the “S Work” cars, and the “S Wi-Fi for Biz” service, and by adding the name “Doctor,” the company expresses that this train will inherit the role of the “Doctor Yellow” inspection train. The logo mark will be installed on the front car, on the odd-numbered cars, and in a total of 20 locations per train set.
Commercial operation as a revenue train is scheduled to begin in October, and after the completion of trial operations and verification tests, operation of the inspection equipment is expected to start in January 2027. Four train sets will be introduced.
Thanks to newly developed technology for inspections during commercial operation, it has become possible to replace all of the inspection functions handled by “Doctor Yellow,” as well as part of the on-site inspection work carried out by employees. By frequently monitoring the condition of trackside facilities, JR Central expects to improve safety by preventing equipment trouble before it occurs, while also reducing the workload of staff involved in equipment inspections.
