Oginoya has announced that a food poisoning incident has occurred, caused by the “Toge no Oyako-meshi” bento produced at its Yokokawa Factory in Japan.
On May 10, “Toge no Oyako-meshi” bentos manufactured at the Yokokawa Factory and sold at the Yokokawa Service Area (SA) on the Joetsu–Nagano Expressway, inbound lane, were consumed by multiple customers who later reported symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting. There were 22 symptomatic individuals, 16 of whom sought medical attention, and 2 were hospitalized. Staphylococcus aureus was detected in samples from 9 people. A total of 90 bentos were sold. The Annaka Public Health Center ordered the Yokokawa Factory to suspend operations for three days starting May 19.
The Yokokawa Factory had voluntarily suspended production and shipment of “Toge no Oyako-meshi” from 11:00 a.m. on May 11, and has also voluntarily suspended production and shipment of “Toge no Kamameshi” from May 15. All “Toge no Kamameshi” bentos currently on sale are produced at the Suwa Factory and the Hachimanyama Factory.
As measures to prevent a recurrence, Oginoya will discontinue production and sales of the affected product, improve processes related to bento manufacturing operations, thoroughly reinforce hygiene education for employees, and strengthen hygiene audits by external specialist organizations.
