Singapore’s Circle Line Extension to Open on July 12
West Japan Railway Company (JR West) will end onboard cart sales in Green Cars on some “Nozomi” and “Hikari” services on the Sanyo Shinkansen on September 30.
Onboard sales in Ordinary Cars were discontinued on March 15, 2024, and currently cart sales are offered only in the Green Cars of 16-car “Nozomi” and “Hikari” trains. From October 1, the service will transition to a “mobile order service,” in which pursers deliver food and drinks ordered via QR codes posted at each seat. The current service of handing out oshibori (wet towels) will also be changed to a system in which passengers place a free order through the mobile order service. In addition, in the newly introduced higher-grade “Supreme Class,” passengers will be able to order drinks and light meals from tablets installed at their seats.
On the Tokaido Shinkansen, onboard cart sales were discontinued in October 2023. Currently, the “Tokaido Shinkansen Mobile Order Service” is offered for Green Car passengers.
