Australian Government Approves Sydney Airport Master Plan 2045
The UK Court of Appeal has dismissed a challenge to plans to upgrade the Northern Runway at London Gatwick Airport.
The Northern Runway is currently used only as a taxiway and can only be used when the main runway is not in operation.
Under the plan, the Northern Runway’s centerline will be moved 12 meters north, allowing both runways to be used on a permanent basis. The project will include upgrades to taxiways, terminals, ancillary facilities, major roads and rivers, as well as temporary construction work and environmental mitigation measures.
The airport aims to create 14,000 new jobs, generate an annual economic impact of £1 billion, and increase annual passenger numbers to 80 million.
Located south of London, Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second-busiest airport by passenger numbers after Heathrow Airport. In 2025, 57 airlines served 227 cities from the airport, which handled 42.8 million passengers. Improved and optimized runway operations will enable up to 57 aircraft movements per hour.
