
JR East to End Sales of Suica Cards Featuring the Suica Penguin
JR East will hold a range of campaigns from September 1 through December 25 to coincide with the graduation of the Suica Penguin mascot.
The “LINE × Ticket Gate Touch Puzzle-Solving Campaign” will run from September 1 through November 30. Participants who register a LINE account, solve all the puzzles displayed on the completed-entry screen, exit through the ticket gates at designated stations using Suica, and enter the keyword sent after exiting along with the name of the station they exited on LINE will receive a coupon worth up to ¥8,000 off purchases on JRE MALL Shopping, as well as Suica Penguin AR content.
A digital stamp rally using the Ekitan station stamp app will be held at 20 locations, including Yamanote Line stations, Shinkansen stations, and station buildings, from October 1 through December 25. Participants can exchange their collected stamps for original prizes according to the number of stamps collected. Special greeting events will be held at participating Shinkansen stations from late November through December.
On the Yamanote Line, a special Suica Penguin-wrapped train will operate in November. Its interior will be fully decorated with penguins, allowing passengers to look back on the mascot’s designs over the years.
In addition, the “Fan Appreciation Event at Ueno Station” will be held from October 30 through November 4. The event will feature an exhibition introducing the history of the Suica Penguin, a message booth, photo spots, merchandise sales, and lottery-based greeting sessions. It will take place in the Grand Concourse outside the Central Gate at JR Ueno Station. Hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., except on the final day, when it will close at 6:00 p.m.
