FOOD & LIFE COMPANIES has opened a sushi izakaya named ‘Sugidama’ in Boston, USA.
Named ‘Sakabayashi Sushi Tavern Back Bay’, it had its grand opening on April 25th. ‘Sugidama’ originally opened its first store in Nishinomiya, Hyogo, in August 2017. It currently has over 80 stores in Japan and Hong Kong, marking this as its first venture into the United States.
For the opening of its first store in the USA, it aimed to replicate the ‘Sugidama’ experience with authentic yet playful dishes and drinks, interior design, and affordable pricing. The menu features a wide range of Japanese dishes centered around sushi, including sashimi, tempura, and a finishing touch of ramen, all popular in Japan. Additionally, in the US, they also offer newly developed cocktails using Japanese sake.
The establishment has 82 seats available. It operates from 11:30 AM to 3 PM and then from 5 PM to 10:30 PM.

Its international expansion began in 2011, with ‘Sushiro’ stores opening in South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Mainland China, and Indonesia. According to its management strategy, it aims for overseas sales to account for 40% of total sales by the fiscal year 2026.
