Pratt & Whitney and Air New Zealand to Expand Christchurch Engine Center
Pratt & Whitney and Air New Zealand are set to expand the Christchurch Engine Center.
An investment of approximately $150 million will be used to expand the facility by 14,000 square meters, with completion expected by 2026. The first engine overhaul is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
This expansion will enhance the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities for GTF engines in New Zealand, allowing for up to 140 annual treatments by 2032.
The Christchurch Engine Center was established by Air New Zealand in 1948 and became a joint venture in 2001 with Pratt & Whitney owning 51%. The center employs over 400 technicians and currently provides maintenance for V2500 engines installed in Airbus A320ceo aircraft.
