Osaka Metro to Install Face Recognition Gates at Namba Station, Expected to be Available to the Public by End of FY2024
JR Central and JR West will continue to make all seats reserved on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi trains during busy periods in fiscal 2025, eliminating unreserved seats.
The applicable periods are from April 25 to May 6 for Golden Week, from August 8 to August 17 for Obon, and from December 26 to January 4, 2026, for the year-end and New Year holidays. All Nozomi trains operating on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen (between Tokyo and Hakata Station) are subject to this policy.
Passengers with unreserved seat tickets may stand in the regular car decks but cannot sit even if seats are vacant. The Hikari and Kodama trains will continue to offer unreserved seats as usual.
Note that since March 15, Car No. 3 of the Nozomi train has been changed to reserved seating, with unreserved seats available only in cars 1 and 2.
