JAL Penalizes 8 Executives; Chairman Akasaka Removed as Safety Manager
Japan Airlines (JAL) has decided on the discipline of executives following a business improvement recommendation issued by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism due to delays caused by the excessive drinking of the pilot and co-pilot on the Melbourne to Tokyo/Narita flight on December 1.
Representative Director and Chairman Yuji Akasaka will have his monthly remuneration reduced by 30% for two months and will be removed from his position as safety oversight manager. Executive Managing Officer Munekazu Tachibana (Safety Promotion Headquarters Director, Victim Consultation Room Chief) will be demoted to Executive Officer, and Executive Officer Masaki Minami (Flight Operations Headquarters Director) will be dismissed as Executive Officer.
Representative Director and President Mitsuko Tottori will have her monthly remuneration reduced by 30% for two months.
