Korean Authorities Amend Regulations on Carry-On Batteries and E-Cigarettes
T’way Air has prohibited the storage of batteries in overhead compartments on their aircraft.
For auxiliary batteries, passengers are required to individually package them and take measures to prevent short circuits. In case of overheating, they must notify the crew immediately. Matches and lighters are already prohibited from being stored in the overhead compartments.
The fire incident involving an Air Busan aircraft at Gimhae International Airport in Busan on January 28th is believed to have been caused by a mobile battery stored in the overhead compartment by a passenger. Authorities are still investigating the cause.
