Keisei Electric Railway Merges with Shin-Keisei and Begins Operating Keisei Matsudo Line
On April 1, Keisei Electric Railway absorbed its subsidiary Shin-Keisei Electric Railway, inheriting the Shin-Keisei Line and commencing operations as the Keisei Matsudo Line.
To commemorate the start of the Keisei Matsudo Line, a ceremony was held at Shin-Tsudanuma Station. Attending were Kazuo Shinme, the stationmaster of Shin-Tsudanuma Station, Kenji Yuasa, the stationmaster of Matsudo Station, and Hiromo Sasaki, the stationmaster of Keisei Tsudanuma Station. They celebrated the new line with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. At 10:22 AM, a Matsudo-bound train adorned with a headmark reading “Commencement of Keisei Electric Railway Matsudo Line Operations” departed, with the sound of a whistle, following the departure signal from Stationmaster Shinme.
Shin-Keisei Electric Railway was established in 1946 to develop the northwestern part of Chiba Prefecture. The Shin-Keisei Line, a route inherited from the former Army Railway Regiment’s training line, connects 26.5 kilometers between Keisei Tsudanuma and Matsudo. In September 2022, faced with a declining population along the line, Keisei Electric Railway made Shin-Keisei Electric Railway a wholly-owned subsidiary to strengthen the business foundation and competitiveness of both companies.
Despite the merger, fares and operation forms remain unchanged, but the “Gentle Pink” design of Shin-Keisei Electric Railway’s trains will gradually be repainted in Keisei Electric Railway colors during routine vehicle inspections.
