Tobu Railway will introduce the new “Series 1000” trains starting in 2027.
Six 2-car trainsets (12 cars in total) will be sequentially introduced for the Kameido Line and Daishi Line in Tokyo. Some of the trainsets will be equipped with the “MimaMoni” facility monitoring system and will also operate on Tobu’s main lines.
From 2028 onward, Tobu Railway will begin full-scale verification testing of autonomous train operation on the Daishi Line. The trains will be equipped with safety devices compatible with autonomous operation, various types of sensors, an obstacle impact detection system, a derailment detection system, and a forward obstacle detection system.
The concept for the rolling stock is “SMART & GATEWAY: an entrance to the future.” The front end design incorporates a hexagonal motif, and the exterior color adopts “Chitose Green,” a traditional Japanese green tone. To reduce power consumption, the trains will feature variable-voltage variable-frequency control equipment using full silicon carbide (SiC) elements, high-efficiency induction motors, and LED lighting. Specific details of the autonomous operation verification will be announced at a later date.
