JR Central Unveils New 385 Series Limited Express “Shinano” Trainset
East Japan Railway Company (JR East) will carry out intensive construction work on the Yokosuka Line between Tokyo and Shinagawa stations, using continuous daytime and nighttime work hours.
The work periods are scheduled from the last train on June 5 until the first train on June 7, from the last train on September 4 until the first train on September 6, and from the last train on November 6 until the first train on November 8. In all cases, the work will be conducted from Friday night through Sunday morning. According to the company, by promoting mechanization that makes full use of the extended work hours, tunnel repair work and regular maintenance can be carried out more quickly and efficiently, thereby improving safety and operational stability.
As a result, train services on the affected section will be suspended for the entire day on June 6, September 5, and November 7. Trains from the Chiba area will turn back at Tokyo Station, and trains from the Kurihama area will turn back at Shinagawa Station, so there will be no service reductions on other sections due to this construction. JR East will not provide substitute transportation via other railway companies, and is asking passengers traveling between Tokyo and Shinagawa stations to use the Tokaido Line, Yamanote Line, or Keihin–Tohoku Line instead.
The limited express “Narita Express” will also be suspended for the entire day on June 6, September 5, and November 7 between Tokyo and Shinjuku/Ofuna stations. In addition, on June 5, September 4, and November 6, trains No. 46, 50, 52, and 54 will be suspended between Tokyo and Ofuna, and trains No. 46, 48, 50, 52, and 54 will be suspended between Tokyo and Shinjuku. On June 7, September 6, and November 8, trains No. 1, 3, 5, and 7 will be suspended between Ofuna and Tokyo, and train No. 1 will be suspended between Shinjuku and Tokyo.
