PASMO Council Launches “TOURIST PASMO” IC Card for Short-Term International Visitors
Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) and West Japan Railway Company (JR West) have announced that all seats on Nozomi services on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines will be reserved during eight periods, including 3-day weekends, in the second half of fiscal year 2026.
In addition to the already announced peak holiday periods of Golden Week (April 24 to May 6), the summer Obon holidays (August 7 to 16), Silver Week (September 18 to 23), and the year-end/New Year period (December 25 to January 5, 2027), the newly added 3-day holiday periods are Sports Day (October 10 to 12), Labor Thanksgiving Day (November 21 to 23), Coming-of-Age Day (January 9 to 11, 2027), and the Vernal Equinox Day (March 20 to 22, 2027).
During periods when all seats are reserved, passengers holding tickets valid only for non-reserved seats, such as non-reserved limited express tickets, will not be able to sit on Nozomi trains. Non-reserved seats will continue to be available as usual on Hikari, Kodama, Mizuho, Sakura, and Tsubame services. Reserved seats can be booked up to one year in advance through the Express Reservation and Smart EX services.
