Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) and West Japan Railway Company (JR West) will conduct a trial introduction of mildly air-conditioned cars on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines in Japan.
On 16-car Hikari services, Car No. 3 in the non-reserved section will be designated as a mildly air-conditioned car. The trial period will run from July 1 through August 31. The same measure will continue in 2025, and usage will be monitored.
The railway companies note that the trial may be canceled on short notice depending on operating conditions, and that passengers on the affected trains may be asked to cooperate with surveys.
