Malaysia Airlines Receives Its 200th Boeing Aircraft
Airbus has conducted the first flight of the Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft (MSN707) in Toulouse, France.
The flight lasted 3 hours and 43 minutes and reached an altitude of approximately 41,000 feet.
The Airbus A350-1000ULR has been developed for Qantas Airways’ “Project Sunrise” and is intended to operate the world’s first non-stop flights between Sydney and London, with a maximum flight time of up to 22 hours. The extended range is achieved through the addition of a Rear Centre Tank (RCT) to the airframe structure, increasing the range by 1,000 nautical miles.
After around two months of flight testing, the aircraft is scheduled to obtain type certification. The flight tests will also verify the fuel system architecture, a new galley cooling system designed for ultra-long-haul routes, and the cabin ventilation and temperature control. The aircraft used for the first flight is expected to be modified to Qantas Airways’ specifications.
The first delivery to Qantas Airways will be the second aircraft, planned for April 2027, which is currently in the final phase of final assembly. It is expected to move to the painting process within a few days, after which the four-class cabin layout will be installed and the engines fitted.
The Airbus A350-1000ULR is the fourth member of the Airbus A350 family, and Qantas Airways has ordered 12 aircraft.
