UCC Japan will reopen the “UCC Coffee Museum” after renovations on July 1.
As Japan’s only museum dedicated exclusively to coffee, it has traditionally featured exhibits on the origin, cultivation, grading, roasting, brewing, and culture of coffee. To these, it has now added an “Experiential Lab for the Science and Future of Coffee.” Based on expertise from UCC’s research and development centers, the lab addresses topics such as the science of coffee and sustainability issues, including the so-called 2050 problem, in which coffee-growing areas are expected to shrink due to global warming. Visitors can learn through hands-on exhibits and activities such as a “Coffee Type Diagnosis.”
Experiential contents include “Lounge by UCC COFFEE ACADEMY” (from 2,200 yen), where visitors can enjoy coffee food pairings; an original coffee blend creation program (2,750 yen); “Cube by UCC COFFEE ACADEMY” (1,650 yen), where participants learn 3D latte art; and “Studio by UCC COFFEE ACADEMY” (2,750 yen), which offers hand-held drum roasting. In addition, there will be a tasting corner where visitors can sample a different coffee each month, as well as a museum shop selling original merchandise.
The museum is located a 1-minute walk from Minami Koen Station on the Port Liner in Kobe, Japan. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday. Opening hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is 880 yen for adults.
