American Airlines will launch a Tokyo/Narita–Chicago/O’Hare route on March 27, 2027.
The airline will operate one round-trip flight per day. The route will be served by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft configured with a total of 285 seats: 30 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy Class, 34 in Main Cabin Extra, and 200 in the Main Cabin. The scheduled flight time is 12 hours 30 minutes from Tokyo/Narita and 12 hours 55 minutes from Chicago/O’Hare.
The schedule is designed to allow convenient connections to Japan Airlines (JAL) flights from Tokyo/Narita to Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei/Taoyuan, Ho Chi Minh City, and other destinations.
Japan Airlines (JAL), which operates a transpacific joint business with American Airlines, also operates one round-trip flight per day on the same Tokyo/Narita–Chicago/O’Hare route. In addition, JAL operates one round-trip flight per day on the Tokyo/Haneda–Chicago/O’Hare route, bringing the total to three round trips per day between Tokyo and Chicago operated by the two airlines combined.
With this addition, the number of long-haul routes to and from Chicago/O’Hare will expand to 11.
