Cathay Pacific Lounge at Narita Airport to Temporarily Close for Renovation
Nishitetsu Air Service began an initiative on June 2 at Narita International Airport in Japan to conduct all handling operations for a single aircraft using electric vehicles.
The company has standardized on electric vehicles for ground operational support duties, including loading and unloading baggage and cargo, transporting baggage between the terminal and aircraft, and pushback at aircraft departure. This is the first time at Narita Airport that all handling operations for one aircraft have been conducted solely with electric vehicles, and also marks the first introduction of electric vehicles for ground handling operations by Nishitetsu Air Service.
The vehicles include towing tractors for pulling dollies carrying containers; belt loaders for loading and unloading bulk-loaded baggage and cargo; high-lift loaders for loading and unloading containers; passenger steps equipped with boarding and deplaning stairways; towing cars for towing aircraft; and remotely operated towing cars controlled from outside the vehicle. Equipment made by TLD or Mototok is used.
Narita International Airport is developing large-scale charging infrastructure for aircraft ground support equipment vehicles used within restricted airport areas. The company is also considering expanding the initiative to other airports in the future.
