EU Updates Banned Airline List, Lifts Ban on Pakistan International Airlines
The European Union (EU) has published the latest list of airlines banned from flying within the EU.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) added Air Tanzania to the list due to safety concerns. Pakistan International Airlines was removed from the list as of November 29, allowing it to operate in the EU again.
The list now includes 129 airlines from 15 countries, with 100 of them being banned due to inadequate safety oversight by their country’s authorities, 22 Russian airlines, and another 7 banned for serious safety deficiencies.
The 15 countries deemed to have inadequate safety oversight are Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Libya, Nepal, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Sudan.
The seven airlines identified with serious safety deficiencies are Air Tanzania, Air Zimbabwe, AVIOR Airlines, Blue Wing Airlines, Iran Aseman Airlines, Fly Baghdad, and Iraqi Airways. Iran Air and Air Koryo are subject to operational restrictions and can only operate with specific aircraft types.
This was announced based on a unanimous opinion by experts on aviation safety from EU member states, held from November 19 to 21 in Brussels.
