Korean Authorities Amend Regulations on Carry-On Batteries and E-Cigarettes
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued a stern warning to Peach Aviation after it was determined that the captain and co-pilot failed to conduct a pre-duty alcohol test. The ministry found that the airline’s alcohol testing system was not functioning properly.
A detailed fact-finding by the company revealed that the captain had been drinking, despite regulations prohibiting alcohol consumption within 12 hours before starting flight duty.
An onsite inspection by the ministry revealed that the captain knowingly consumed alcohol during the prohibited period and provided false explanations during company interviews. Although the captain was not under the influence during duty, all crew members, including the captain, forgot to perform pre-duty alcohol tests. Moreover, the officer in charge of test management failed to take appropriate action, such as verifying with operating crew members, despite indications on the system that test results had not been received.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism instructed Peach Aviation to report preventive measures by March 7.
