Air Canada has revealed that it canceled approximately 1,290 flights over six days due to the Delta Air Lines incident at Toronto Pearson International Airport and weather impacts.
Despite efforts to maximize the number of flights and capacity, recovery remains at a slow pace because of restrictions on takeoff and landing frequencies. Normally, about 44 flights can be handled per hour, but this has been limited to 16. Depending on weather conditions, it may take several days before full operations can resume.
Craig Landry, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, commented, “Yesterday was a tough day. We are deeply concerned about the Delta Air Lines incident. Our thoughts are with the passengers and crew on that flight,” expressing gratitude to the staff handling the situation.
Toronto Pearson International Airport is one of Air Canada’s two major hubs, accounting for approximately 47% of all flights and used or transited by 46% of all passengers.
