
Airlines Implement Special Measures due to Tsunami Warning: Flights to/from Kushiro, Hakodate, Sendai
The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning and advisory for a wide range of the Pacific coast.
This follows an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 that occurred around 8:25 AM near the Kamchatka Peninsula.
Tsunami warnings have been issued for the Eastern Hokkaido Pacific Coast, Central Hokkaido Pacific Coast, Western Hokkaido Pacific Coast, Aomori Prefecture Pacific Coast, Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Fukushima Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture Kujukuri and Sotobo, Chiba Prefecture Uchibo, Izu Islands, Ogasawara Islands, Sagami Bay and Miura Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture, Aichi Prefecture Offshore, Southern Mie Prefecture, and Wakayama Prefecture.
Tsunami advisories have been issued for areas including Northern Hokkaido Japan Sea Coast, Okhotsk Sea Coast, Aomori Prefecture Japan Sea Coast, Mutsu Bay, Tokyo Bay Inner Bay, Ise and Mikawa Bay, Osaka Prefecture, Hyogo Prefecture Setouchi Coast, Southern Awaji Island, Okayama Prefecture, Tokushima Prefecture, Uwajima Coast of Ehime Prefecture, Kochi Prefecture, Setouchi Coast of Oita Prefecture, Bungo Channel Coast of Oita Prefecture, Miyazaki Prefecture, Eastern Kagoshima Prefecture, Tanegashima and Yakushima Region, Amami Islands and Tokara Islands, Western Kagoshima Prefecture, Okinawa Main Island Region, Daito Islands Region, Miyako and Yaeyama Islands.
In some areas, the tsunami is expected to reach as early as 10 AM, with waves predicted to be as high as 3 meters.
