The Lufthansa Group introduced new rules regarding the carriage and use of mobile power banks from January 15.
The use and in-flight charging of power banks are prohibited, and the number of power banks allowed on board is limited to two per person. Storing them in the overhead bins is also prohibited; they must be kept on the passenger’s person, in the seat pocket, or under the seat in front. As before, they cannot be checked in as checked baggage.
The new rules are described as being “to enhance the safety of both passengers and crew on board the aircraft.” Power banks cannot be used to supply power to critical medical devices.
The Lufthansa Group includes Lufthansa German Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and ITA Airways, among others.
