JAL Group Implements Special Ticket Measures Due to Typhoon No. 7
Ryanair will partially revise its seat allocation policy for families.
Until now, when traveling with children, if one adult in the booking paid a seat selection fee at the time of reservation, seat selection for up to four children on the same booking was free.
Under the new policy, families who do not wish to select seats in advance will be assigned adjacent seats free of charge after check-in. Because the front rows tend to fill up first as paid reserved seats, free allocations are more likely to be in the rear of the aircraft. Those who want to secure front-row seats by choosing them at the time of booking can still do so by paying the regular seat selection fee.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael O’Leary said in a statement that, while Ryanair would “reluctantly comply” with the request from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), he maintained that the airline’s previous family seat policy had been “the most transparent in Europe.” He criticized the CMA for pushing a shift toward an industry standard that is “less transparent,” which he said is applied to many other airlines.
