Japan Airlines (JAL)’s 10th Airbus A350-1000 aircraft (registration: JA10WJ), which had been grounded after being damaged in a collision with another airline’s aircraft, arrived at Tokyo/Haneda from New York/John F. Kennedy on the night of July 31.
Operating as flight JL8005, the ferry flight departed New York/John F. Kennedy shortly after 8 p.m. local time on July 30 and landed at Tokyo/Haneda at around 10:14 p.m. the following day, July 31. It arrived at Spot 114 at Terminal 3.
At around 12:40 a.m. on December 14, 2025, the right main wing of another airline’s aircraft being towed came into contact with the JAL aircraft, which was parked in its designated position for maintenance work. The collision damaged the left cockpit window and other areas. The aircraft had operated as JL4 from Tokyo/Haneda to New York/John F. Kennedy on December 3, after which it had remained parked at John F. Kennedy Airport. Aircraft No. 10 was delivered in July 2025 and became inoperable after just four months.
Based on Airbus technical approval, maintenance work was completed locally in coordination with aviation authorities. On July 29 local time, a flight was conducted to confirm the aircraft’s condition following the maintenance work.
