Swiss International Air Lines will officially introduce a passenger counting system using artificial intelligence (AI) from 2024.
The system is provided by the Berlin-based German startup company, Vion AI, and will switch from the current manual counting on board to an AI-based count using cameras installed near the doors. It will start in the third quarter of 2024 for short-haul routes and in the fourth quarter of 2024 for long-haul routes.
This spring, trials will be conducted across various aircraft types and under multiple conditions to develop the first prototype of the new software. The software operated reliably, and the trial was successful. Over the next few months, the software will be refined.
This will enhance passenger comfort during boarding, reduce the workload for cabin crew, eliminate errors from manual counting, and improve safety.
