Japan Airlines (JAL) has completed the modification of a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft into a dedicated cargo plane (aircraft registration number: JA653J), and it is scheduled to be air transported tomorrow, January 17th.
The cargo flight, designated as JL8160, will depart from Singapore’s Paya Lebar at 8:30 AM on the same day and is expected to arrive at Tokyo’s Narita Airport at 4:40 PM.
In response to the so-called ‘2024 issue’ where there will be a regulation on the upper limit of drivers’ overtime work, JAL has decided to operate their own dedicated cargo planes to anticipate an expanded role in domestic air transport and further growth in the cargo post business. Three aircraft will be introduced in succession to be deployed on international routes, mainly in East Asia. In the future, they also plan to operate on domestic routes, increasing aircraft utilization and maximizing cargo load rates. In addition, they will offer charter flights and extra flights tailored to customer needs. The introduction of dedicated cargo planes is the first in 13 years.
Flight operations are planned to start on February 19, based in Tokyo/Narita and Nagoya/Chubu, connecting to Seoul/Incheon, Shanghai/Pudong, and Taipei/Taoyuan with passenger flights.
A Boeing 767-300ER aircraft can carry up to 32 tons in the upper cargo compartment (24 pallets) and 16 tons in the lower cargo compartment (3 pallets and 9 containers).
