Hong Kong International Airport Commences Operations with Three Runways
Hong Kong International Airport started operations with three runways on November 28th.
Construction of the third runway began in August 2016, and it has been in service since November 2022. The central runway was closed for resurfacing and the construction of new taxiways, among other projects. Flight CX8333 was the first to take off from the renovated runway.
A ceremony held at Hong Kong International Airport was attended by John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Jack So, Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), among others. It supports the strategic role as a global gateway for the entire Greater Bay Area, including Guangdong province, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Over the next decade, Hong Kong International Airport aims to handle 120 million passengers annually and 10 million tons of cargo.
