China’s Jiuzhaigou Gains Popularity Among Asian Youth – Visit Report Part 1
Capella Hotel Group opened “Patina Osaka” on May 1.
The hotel is housed in a 21-story building with three basement levels developed by NTT Urban Development, located adjacent to Osaka Castle Park and Naniwa Palace Site Park. It is situated directly in front of Osaka Castle’s main keep, offering a panoramic view of the Osaka city center from the upper floors.
The lifestyle brand “Patina” first opened in the Maldives, with Osaka being its second location. The brand is characterized by a logo that connects the four Ps: Perspective, Place, Pace, and Patina Spirit. The third location is planned for Hainan Island.
The exterior design was crafted by Mitsui Designtec Co., Ltd., and the interior design by Strickland. The hotel features a simple façade design and has developed a pedestrian space that connects to the greenery of Osaka Castle Park and Naniwa Palace Site Park. NTT Urban Development has also developed commercial facilities and parking areas. The operation is managed by UD Hospitality Management, with Ellen Franke, who previously served as the General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi, appointed as the General Manager.
The hotel offers 221 rooms with a design based on deep wood tones. The standard room size is 50 square meters, featuring 162 deluxe rooms, 24 premium rooms, 18 junior suites, 11 deluxe suites, 5 urban suites, and 1 patina suite. Corner rooms on each floor have balconies, and the 233-square-meter patina suite includes a living room and bedroom with a turntable and sound speakers, a kitchen and dining area, a balcony overlooking Osaka Castle, and a bathroom with a steam sauna. All rooms are equipped with yoga mats.
The “Patina Chapel” located on the third floor features a design that utilizes natural light and materials, with a direct view of Osaka Castle’s main keep. It has a maximum ceiling height of 5.1 meters and can seat up to 80 people. Inspired by Osaka Castle, the “Patina Ballroom,” which admits natural light, has a foyer and open kitchen, and can accommodate up to 180 people. The ballroom extends to a terrace, suitable for sunset cocktail parties or garden weddings.
The spa and wellness facility on the fourth floor, “Patina Wellness,” features health tech equipment popular with athletes, including high-pressure oxygen & hydrogen therapy, cryotherapy, red light photobiomodulation therapy, and infrared saunas. The gym utilizes TechnoGym’s personal training and body scan systems to measure body composition and automatically sets workout programs tailored to individual goals. The adjoining studio space offers wellness classes such as yoga. The pool measures 20 meters in length with six lanes, creating a resort-like space with views of Osaka Castle. The spa treatment facilities include six rooms, with two rooms for two people and four rooms for one person.
Signature restaurant “P72” embraces the concept of Japan’s traditional “72 seasonal phases,” offering meals that reflect the rhythms of the seasons and nature. Partnering with local producers, the menu is crafted based on seasonal organic ingredients, with about 70% plant-based dishes. The restaurant cultivates herbs via hydroponics indoors and has an outdoor herb garden. Guests can dine with their pets on the terrace. Afternoon tea is also available.
The teppanyaki restaurant “Bairin,” with views over Osaka, selectively sources black wagyu beef, abalone, Ise lobster, and other seafood and seasonings from across Japan, served alongside local ingredients like Baba eggplant, Osaka shiro-na, and Awaji onions. The Basque cuisine restaurant “Iñaki” offers dishes infused with the essence of Spain’s Basque region.
The tea lounge “Nijiri,” named after the narrow entrance of a tea room conceptualized by Sen no Rikyu, offers a selection of organic Japanese tea and black tea, along with afternoon tea using local ingredients. The top-floor “SONATA BAR & LOUNGE” allows for a relaxing experience with views over Osaka Castle Park and Naniwa Palace Site Park, featuring open-air terrace seating.
Capella Hotel Group operates hotels in Singapore, Ubud, Bangkok, Hanoi, Sydney, Shanghai, and Hainan Island, marking its first venture into Japan. Future expansions are aimed at Tokyo and Niseko.
