JR East Installs Vending Machine in London’s UNIQLO Offering Fukushima Peach Juice and More
JR East’s subsidiary, JRE Business Development UK, has installed a vending machine in UNIQLO, a clothing store in London, that sells Japanese products.
The location is near Tottenham Court Road in central London, at UNIQLO Tottenham Court Road. The machine is touch-panel operated and sells railway goods, beverages, and snacks.
The machine features products from the “acure” series popular in Japan, such as “Fukushima Akatsuki Peach,” a straight 100% fruit juice made using Akatsuki peaches from Fukushima Prefecture, and “Aomori Apple,” a blend of mainly Fuji apples from Aomori Prefecture with varieties like Orin and Jonagold, available in selected areas and stores as well as online, priced at 3.20 pounds each. It also offers “From AQUA Natural Water Jelly,” a jelly drink made from the natural waters of the Tanigawa mountain range, priced at 3.70 pounds, along with popular snacks like Pocky and Hi-Chew.
The vending machine is made in the UK and supports contactless payment with credit cards. The monitor on top displays the date, time, operational status of London’s railways, and the weather. The JR East logo is displayed on the machine.
The company has announced its acquisition of Decorum Vending, which holds vending operation rights from about 90% of British railway operating companies, and plans to expand its vending machine business from the current 50 units to 1,000 units primarily at transport hubs and stations in the UK.
