JR West has announced plans to add platform barriers to the stations on the Sanyo Shinkansen line.
Priority will be given to all stations where the “Nozomi” stops, followed by other stations with high passenger numbers as soon as preparations are ready, with an aim to have barriers installed at all platforms of all stations by 2040.
Construction will begin at Hakata (platforms 14 & 15), Hiroshima, Okayama, and Shin-Kobe stations in fiscal year 2024; at Hakata (platforms 11 & 12) in fiscal year 2025; at Kokura (platforms 12 & 13) and Fukuyama stations in fiscal year 2026; Kokura (platforms 11 & 14) and Nishi-Akashi stations in fiscal year 2027; with other stations to follow from fiscal year 2028 onwards.
