AirAsia X to Launch Flights to Istanbul, Granted Air Traffic Rights
AirAsia X is planning to launch flights between Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul in March 2025, marking its re-entry into Europe.
The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) announced its decision to grant air traffic rights. The airline will operate four round trips per week. It is expected to use the Airbus A330 aircraft.
Capital A (formerly AirAsia Group) CEO Tony Fernandes mentioned in an interview conducted in June, regarding the European routes, “We intend to start with Eastern Europe first.”
The Malaysian Aviation Commission considers factors such as demand and consumer benefits, quality of service, and the impact on Malaysia’s airports and the aviation industry when deciding on the allocation of air traffic rights. The commission also reserves the right to temporarily suspend or revoke the decision if the airline fails to comply with the conditions. Airlines granted rights must commence operations of all allocated flights within six months from the start date, and unused rights will be canceled.
