JAL to Increase International Flights in Fiscal 2026, Including San Diego and Bengaluru Routes
Qantas Airways will temporarily increase flights on the Tokyo/Narita–Melbourne route from December 2 through March 27, 2027.
The airline currently operates one round-trip flight per day. During this period, it will add four weekly round-trip flights: departing Tokyo/Narita on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and departing Melbourne on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, for a total of 11 round trips per week. The route will be operated with Airbus A330 aircraft.
This increase responds to growing demand and will add 30,000 seats. Japan is said to be a popular travel destination for Qantas passengers; during the same period last year, the number of users reached 350,000, an 8% increase year-on-year.
Nick McGlynn, Senior Vice President for Asia, commented, “Last year, more than one million Australians visited Japan, and the ties between our two countries have become stronger than ever. We are very pleased to be able to expand capacity to meet the strong two-way travel demand. This will make Melbourne and the many attractions of Australia feel even closer for our customers in Japan. By adding 30,000 seats on this route, even more customers from Japan will be able to experience some of the world’s best food and wine, as well as the spectacular natural scenery including the Great Ocean Road.”
