Enjoying Nature with Family on Bohol Island, Philippines: A Report from the DOT Mega Fam Tour
The Philippines Department of Tourism (DOT) has launched a new branding campaign, ‘LOVE THE PHILIPPINES’, in the Japanese market and organized a familiarization trip to promote the attractions of nine major tourist destinations (Manila, Cebu, Bohol, Boracay, Siargao, Clark, Iloilo, Palawan, and Davao).
From July 29 to August 2, 120 media and influencers were invited to these nine cities. The aim was to have participants experience and share the charm of the Philippines through tourist spots, culture, and activities. The final night brought everyone together in Manila for a networking dinner at Okada Manila. The SNS reach exceeded 40 million, and it was even featured on television.
In this article, we report on the fam trip to Bohol, one of the Philippines’ most popular tourist spots.
Access to Bohol via Philippine Airlines
Access to Bohol is provided by Philippine Airlines. Since there are no direct flights from Japan, travelers first take flight PR431 from Narita International Airport at 9:30 AM to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, then connect to PR2777 after a 1 hour and 40 minutes layover, heading to Panglao International Airport, the gateway to Bohol.
For the return trip, it is the reverse route, landing in Manila via PR2774 from Panglao International Airport. Due to the tour schedule, there was an overnight stay in Manila before catching the PR432 flight back to Narita International Airport the following day.
When connecting in Manila using Philippine Airlines, it’s important to note that international flights depart and arrive at Terminal 1, while domestic flights do so at Terminal 2. This requires a terminal transfer, and although a free shuttle bus is available, it takes at least 30 minutes including waiting time due to the route going outside the airport. A minimum layover time of 2 hours is recommended.
When transferring from an international to a Philippine domestic flight, it’s not possible to check luggage through. At Ninoy Aquino International Airport, you must collect your luggage from the carousel and re-check it at the same area’s transfer counter. Additionally, immigration and security checks are required, so ample layover time should be allowed, especially for those unfamiliar or traveling with family.
The aircraft used from Tokyo/Narita to Manila is an Airbus A321, while from Manila to Bohol it’s an Airbus A320, both narrow-body aircraft. The flight time from Tokyo/Narita to Manila is approximately 4 to 4 and a half hours, and from Manila to Bohol is about an hour. There are no power outlets or USB ports for charging electronic devices, so please be prepared.
