JR Kyushu Service Status for July 29 Following Kumamoto Earthquake
JR Kyushu has indicated that it will be difficult to resume operations on the Kyushu Shinkansen between Kumamoto and Shin-Minamata stations during August.
Significant deformation has reportedly occurred to bridges and rails due to ground deformation at the Hinagu Fault crossing. Although detailed surveys and restoration work are underway, the company expects that restoration will require a considerable amount of time.
JR Kyushu is continuing to consider the resumption of operations between Shin-Minamata and Kagoshima-Chuo stations.
