Hotel Metropolitan Kawasaki in Japan is offering its summer afternoon tea, “Summer Evening Afternoon Tea: A Cool Twilight Moment,” on weekdays from June 1 to August 31.
With the theme of a “summer evening” from daytime into dusk, the menu combines sweets and savories inspired by Japanese summer festival stalls with elements using liqueur. From the welcome drink and shaved ice to the plated dessert that evokes fireworks, the course is designed to express the passing of time in stages.
The welcome drink, “Cool Colors Guiding You to the Summer Sky,” is a blue herbal tea topped with cotton candy shaped like clouds; when lemon syrup is poured over, the color changes. The tea stand, “Summer Evening Banquet,” features six items: brown sugar and roasted soybean flour tiramisu, chilled pineapple, yuzu bonbon chocolat, banana macaron, soy sauce corn scone, and peach jasmine tea panna cotta.
The savory plate, “Festive Flavors of the Evening Cool Food Stalls,” offers six items: chilled corn soup, potato and spicy cod roe gratin, kebab, meat-wrapped roll, salmon roll, and takoyaki-style zeppoline. The shaved ice, “Cool Breeze at Twilight,” is served with two kinds of sauces—mango and berry—and condensed milk cream. The plated dessert, “Fireworks in the Evening Sky,” is a cassis chocolate mousse encasing a raspberry jelly, with a special sauce that makes candy pop when poured.
The venue is the all-day dining restaurant “Terrace and Table.” The afternoon tea is available for up to two hours between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., and orders for tea and coffee are accepted until 30 minutes before the end of the seating. Reservations are accepted until noon three days prior to the desired date of use, and the offer is limited to 10 servings per day. The price is JPY 4,600, including tax and service charge.
